This Metrowest Boston farmhouse abuts a large working apple orchard and farm. Care was taken to site the new swimming pool to enhance, not detract from, the pastoral scenery. The gunite pool and raised spa are surrounded by a combination of rectilinear and irregular bluestone. The back portion of the renovated garage/barn was turned into a bar with a sliding door. A fieldstone wall and monolithic bluestone steps raise the spa above the pool terrace level for an elevated perspective over the landscape. The custom designed timber pergola provides shade from the southern summer sun as well as a vertical focal point. A streamlined palette of plants provide all-season texture and summer pops of color along with structure from a columnar Sweet Gum, dwarf Ginkgo and variegated dogwood tree. A lush lawn surrounds the pool terrace on two sides, lengthening the view from the house to the orchard beyond while also providing plenty of space for badminton, cornhole and active family parties.
