KLLA Design Philosophy
Kerry Lewis Landscape Architects, established in 2002, is a design firm dedicated to the practice of residential landscape
architecture. With over twenty years of experience in residential design,
I am particularly attuned to the needs of the private client. Personal
service, attention to detail and hands-on involvement from beginning
to end of the project are the hallmarks of my practice. Whether you
have a small urban garden or a large country estate, my team and I
will transform your ideas into a realized vision.
KLLA does not have a set design style. Rather, I take cues from the landscape, the architecture and, most importantly, the client. Each project is a unique opportunity to create lasting beauty which enhances the client’s quality of life. Imagine a new outdoor living space constructed of bluestone, granite, brick or fieldstone, nestled into the site by stone walls and beautiful plantings. Swimming pools, fountains or custom water features provide opportunites for active play or quiet reflection. I can create a formal French garden, a classic English perennial border or the new American style of meadows and native plants. I encourage environmentally sensitive landscape practices and am a proponent of historic preservation, taking special pleasure in working on homes with historic character.
KLLA will work with you throughout the entire design process; starting
with a landscape master plan, working through a budget and phasing plan,
providing construction documents (layout and grading plans, planting and lighting plans, etc.), supervising the construction and even selecting your outdoor furniture
and planting your pots if so desired.
Our established relationships with the finest tradespeople and professionals in design (architects, interior designers, lighting designers) and construction (general contractors, landscape contractors, swimming pool specialists, stone masons, arborists) ensures the masterful completion of any project, however large or small.
Nearly all of our work is gathered through word of mouth from satisfied
clients. Many of our clients are repeat customers, either building
their gardens in phases year after year, contacting us for an annual
walk through the garden to assess changess or missed opportunities,
inquiring about the best methods to care for their garden or requesting
assistance for a special party or event. We are committed to developing
and maintaining long term relationships with each and every client.

Kerry Lewis established KLLA in 2002 after fifteen years of professional
practice with firms in New York, San Francisco and, most recently,
in Boston with the award winning Halvorson Design Partnership. At Halvorson,
Kerry headed up the residential design department and lent her planting
expertise to many commercial, institutional and park projects.
She comes by her love of plants naturally from growing up on a farm in the Hudson
Valley region of New York State. Her parents own and operate a perennial
nursery in the area, Lorjon Nursery. Artistic talents
run in the family; Kerry’s brother, Christoper Lewis, is a stone mason
and artist who is available for commissioned work.
Kerry graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science
with distinction in Landscape Architecture.
Kerry is a registered landscape architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
and the State of California. She is a member of New England Wildflower
Society, Massachusetts Horticultural Society, The Trustees of Reservation, The Garden Conservancy and The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
She was recently elected to the Board of Trustees at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA.
